Power Lines

  1. Today's notions are tomorrow's treasure.

  49. Rules of Belief Systems

  50. Rules of Belief Systems #1: It is my guess that belief systems are the structures used by consciousness to convince itself of reality.
  51. Rules of Belief Systems #2: Negative belief, or disbelief on any matter, represents the same belief continuum as the topical belief, just in the opposite direction and, therefore, still "a way of believing" about the topic.
  52. Rules of Belief Systems #3: Absolutely perfect non-belief, zero belief, or the absence of all belief, positive or negative, is not possible within consciousness.
  53. Rules of Belief Systems #4: A little belief is intuition or a hunch.
  54. Rules of Belief Systems #5: A lot of belief is a rule.
  55. Rules of Belief Systems #6: A moderately strong belief is a fact.
  56. Rules of Belief Systems #7: A very strong belief is a law.
  57. Rules of Belief Systems #8: Any absolute belief is a faith.
  58. Rules of Belief Systems #9: Any belief that is counter to any other belief, or the other levels of belief, is a false belief or a lie.
  59. Rules of Belief Systems #10: Conflicts between the various levels and between different topical beliefs (and not the desire for or against anything) are the cause of all suffering within and between silos of consciousness. (That would probably be us, people.)
  60. Rules of Belief Systems #11: If any aspect of a belief is suspect, the entire belief system is suspect. If any absolute segment of the belief can be proven false, the entire belief system is false! Proof or suspicion of falsity, unfortunately, will not in the least change the blind faith of the absolute believer.
  61. Rules of Belief Systems #13: No amount of good or happiness can out-weigh a single evil caused by your belief system. No amount.

  73. In their inevitable deal with the devil, almost all men chose to be made perfect in one hugely throbbing way. A poet will choose to be made perfect in every little way, except one. Unfortunately, the devil gets to choose the one.
